Easter at Othona
Led by Phil Martin
This year we welcome back Phil Martin to lead our Easter celebrations. Phil has worked with children, young people and families for more than 25 years in both voluntary and paid roles in churches, the YMCA and youth clubs.
The Easter weekend begins with a Passover meal together on Maundy Thursday evening, This meal will have a celebratory and party feel as we all share in the activities together. On Good Friday we will meet village folk in their procession from St Thomas, Bradwell to St Peter-on-the-Wall where we will share a vigil. On Easter Saturday there will be a bonfire and service on the beach, kindling the Easter fire. On Easter Sunday morning we will join people from the local area for a dawn service at the Chapel to be led by Stephen Cottrell, Bishop of Chelmsford, followed by a cooked breakfast back at Othona.
Throughout the weekend there will be a variety of activities, some at specific times and others ongoing, to dip in and out of. There will be baking, crafts, films, games, reflections and discussions, for individual or group participation. All our activities and reflections will lead us to a better understanding of Easter and its significance in our lives today. Easter is a time of new hope, new beginnings and new opportunities for all and this weekend will provide plenty of opportunity for new friendships, new experiences and new discoveries.
It goes without saying that no Othona Bradwell Easter would be complete without our traditional egg-painting and infamous egg-rolling competition!
Easter weekend runs from supper on Maundy Thursday until breakfast on Tuesday – we encourage you to come for the whole event; you’ll have a cracking time.
